Lets go traintrotting around the world

Friday, 21 February, 2020, 5:26 AM

A small part of my family lives down in Småland, which is a part of the south of Sweden. My family uses to be less spread out, but at least all but one of us lives around Stockholm. So that is why we had a bit of a swecation for the Christmas holidays, which is always nice. Don't you agree?

But that was not what I wanted to talk about, I was actually thinking of the huge difference in comfort when it comes to airplanes vs trains.

Last time we traveled by
snälltåg, translated kind train, how cute is that? But this time we went with the faster train X2000. There is not a huge difference in time between the two trains though and not in cost either.

The seats are really comfy, on either of the trains, I can't really tell for sure but it feels like the seats are wider compared to an airplane. You have so much more leg space, its ridiculous. I could easily place my carry-on bag in front of my feet and still have room for my legs. Most people would not fit that way but I do since I am a travel-sized woman, I rarely have a problem fitting into small spaces. If you have longer legs you could place your bags in the overhead compartment, and have plenty of leg space. There are even a few places in each carriage where you have seats for four people, with a table in the middle.

On planes, you have a variety of foods and beverages to choose from, and likewise on the train. The biggest difference is that you can stand up on the train and walk into the Bistro for a bite to eat, so you can get a change of scenery whilst on the train. You don't have to be seated all the time and wait for your food cart to roll by.

And hey, even the bathrooms are biggest. Not big enough to dance in, but there is plenty of room to change a diaper. There are usually two bathrooms in each carriage.

I can not help but think of the endless places you could travel to from Stockholm Sweden, starting with Copenhagen in Denmark. That will take about 5 - 5,5 hours with the train from Stockholm to Copenhagen, depending on what train you choose and a roundtrip will cost you about 80€. If you go by flight it will take your time to travel to the airport, which takes me about an hour longer than to the train station. Then you have to be at the airport two hours ahead of departure. The flight takes an hour. From Copenhagen airport into Copenhagen, well about 15 minutes. So if you go by flight it takes you 4,15 minutes and it will cost you about 100€. And trains will take you about an hour longer.

So what do you say, let's go train trotting around the world?

Bucketlist for 2020

Tuesday, 11 February, 2020, 5:33 AM

Yes, we did a Bucketlist for 2019 aswell, so why not make it a tradition?

Last year we cheated by putting Madrid on the list, even though we had already booked the trip. But then again, I think we kind of jinxed last year's list, cuz we only made it to two of our bucket list destinations. We made it to Madrid and Edinburgh in Scotland. We didn't even make it to Copenhagen, and that's like a train ride away...

So first off is two of last year's bucket list destinations, that we're gonna leave on the list for this year as well. Maybe even a third... yes, a third, let's keep three. Here we go, Paris, New Orleans and Scotland are staying. Some of the other destinations that were on last year's list has kind of lost the priority and is no longer that attractive. Does that make sense?

  • Paris - yes, I know its kind of cheating, since our trip to Paris is a done deal, we're going to Paris at the end of May. But has been on the list since last year, so it's staying on.
  • New Orleans - I called it an overreach last year, but I don't think so anymore. This is one of those dream-come-through trips, and I'm thinking that this is the year when my dream does come through.
  • Edinburgh - Yes, I know, I did make it to Edinburgh last year, and the year before that, so I have checked that off the list, but that doesn't mean that I can't go back, does it? And as you all know I am cheating again, since we've already booked another trip Edinburgh during Beltane.
  • Greece - I would love to see more of the greek island. I have been to Greece a bunch of times, to both the mainland and several of the islands, but there are still places I would love to see and maybe even have a summer vacation there. I guess this is cheating too, cuz we visited Athens for New Years, so... ah well.
  • Tallinn - oh yes, this trip is definitely long overdue. I so want to go on a cruise ship from Stockholm for a weekend in Estonia.
  • Copenhagen - Yepp, I think that was on last year's bucket list as well. But after going on that train ride to the south of Sweden I really do want to go to Copenhagen by train, that seems like a great trip to do.
  • A New Years Trip - well, as always I want to go away for a New Years' trip, but I have not really decided or found the right destination yet, so can I get back to you on that? Or maybe you have some advice on where to spend the New Years' weekend?

We had eight destinations on last year's list, but this year we have shortened it to seven, which seems obtainable. And to make the list more obtainable, we shorten the number of destinations by one... Haha okay, let's just say this, we could have made last year's list for sure, life just kind of got in the way.

Of course, the ultimate bucket list is way longer than that, for sure. But if we don't stop at an achievable number, we're gonna go totally bananas. We have talked about it and to be completely honest, besides the destinations listed above, we are not totally sure where we want to go during 2020 ... do you?

If you have a bucket list for 2020 of your own, please link it down below, we would love to read yours!

Walk with me - Athens Greece

Friday, 7 February, 2020, 5:43 AM

Yeah, this walk with me has become a thing, but I just love showing you some images of how the streets that we walked through and buildings that we passed by looked. Maybe it will inspire you to talk a walk, anywhere in the world, trying to find that little piece of hidden magic.

The variety of colours on the buildings but yet in a certain combination, the different set of stones on the streets, the old buildings with the street art and the greenery. Do you see there are actual lemons on that tree? They grew everywhere in the city, both lemons, and oranges. And flowers of course. It's amazing to see so much greenery growing in January, we all loved just strolling down the narrow streets.

Everywhere you turned you could see tables and chairs in front of a small tavern, you could hear the live music playing from the bistro down the alley and smell the fresh baked goods. It sure is a beautiful city in more than one ways, it has the history, the fashion, the ancient architecture, the modern touch, the culture, the well taken care of street cats, and maybe the best part - the food. The amazing greek food. How much more could you ask of a city?

I can tell you this much, I would not mind going back again. Athens is a huge city, so much bigger than I thought at first. There is so much more to see and experience and a weekend are simply not enough to see the entire city, we have only just begun to explore a small part of it.

How about you, have you ever been to Athens in Greece? What did you enjoy the most? Or is the magical city still on your bucketlist?
