Sweden - Gålö

Staycation at Gålö campsite

I have been dreaming of going on a vacation for quite a while now, like most of you – and the rest of the world, so we tried our best to find a place where we can have a staycation and stay safe at the same time. We did a lot of research and found that having a staycation at Gålö Campsite was perfect for us!

From the beginning of the weekend until the end, we meet no-one other than the friends we shared the cottage with, so we practiced social distancing and had a corona-safe weekend. The check-in was done online and we picked up our key to the cottage outside the reception in a coded box. It’s was super easy and the entire weekend felt totally corona friendly.

They had a good amount of different choices when it comes to accommodations like cottages, trailer and tent campsite, hostel, and the news for 2021 is glamping tents. We choose a cottage with 5 beds, that was perfect for us and some of our closest friends.

We did not do much during the weekend besides enjoying the feeling of not being at home, we did some barbequing, played some board games, had some wine, and laughed a lot. It was exactly the kind of break that I needed after spending so much time just staying at home, being in the car going to work, being at work, and then going home again. You all know that feeling.

Gålö is located about 40 kilometers south of the city center of Stockholm. If you go by train and bus it will take you approximately one and a half hours to get there. You take the train number 43 from Stockholm to Västerhaninge, continue by bus 845 to Gålö, with one connecting bus in Skälåker. The bus stops right outside the campsite, so it’s super easy to get there. For us, it took about 30 minutes to get there by car, from door to door. Well, a bit longer, we had to make a stop to pet some goats but I’ll tell you more about that in a later entry.
