Experiencing Venice for the first time
As you can see this trip was some time ago, but I thought I would share some of my experience anyways. Italy has always been a dream of mine, so of course, I wanted to go to Venice and see this romantic and beautiful city in person.
We actually lived about twenty minutes away from Venice, so we traveled by bus every day from a smaller town called Treviso. That’s my advice of the day if you’re going to Venice, live in Treviso. It’s close to the airport, the town is really cute and the local bus works just fine. And to be honest, there are some cute restaurants in Treviso as well, just located by the canals, so don’t miss out on that. I would recommend that you take some extra time to explore this next door cutie.
And remember to buy a ticket for the boat bus, you cant buy them on the boat, only at the bus station which is just at the beginning of the city. We actually walked the entire city, and at the end when we wanted to take the boat bus to get back, we couldn’t, so that was a bummer.
If you go to Venice, it’s not like in the Disney movie Lady and the Tramp. It’s cute alright and we had a good weekend, but it’s not what it’s cracked up to be. But as I said in the beginning, it was a while ago that we visited Venice, so to be fair – nowadays I do my research. I have a hard time thinking that I would have found my self in the same situations, of not having a ticket for example. But for the record, I am glad I have seen Venice and I would love to go back and explore Italy some more.

I have been to Venice but it is quite awhile ago, but I remember wandering around the streets with no plan and absolutely loving it. Such a beautiful city, I wish it wasn’t have all the problems with tourists and flooding!

I visited Venice several years ago and simply loved it. That city looks so beautiful in all the pictures of buildings surrounded by water and also the gondolas! It’s a pity that it has problems of flooding in particular and hope it gets resolved. 😊

I absolutely loved Venice. When I can’t find street signs I take that as a sign to just wander. All the lovely coves and alleyways with water crisscrossing by was just lovely.

I agree, hope it gets resolved!

I am glad I had the opportunity to go there, and hopefully I’ll get there again to see some more of the city. There is so much more left, that I have not seen yet 😊

I loved Venice! We spent three days there as part of a European Roadtrip and honestly, I wasn’t looking forward to it, but it blew me away. im not very good with crowds, so we didn’t linger at the popular tourist sites for long, but instead wandered the back streets, laughed with locals and drank at local bars and cafès. That for me was where the magic of Venice lies. If you ever return, explore some more, I think you’ll fall in love.

My husband promised to propose to me on a Gondola in Venice almost 30 years ago and I’m still waiting 😊 I love getting lost in backstreets I find that it gives you a true reflection of what a place is really like.

You’re so right … If you’re visiting somewhere for the first time and you’re not sure you’ll have the chance to come back, you’ve just got to grab the opprotunities by the balls just to make sure you don’t have any regrets when you look back. I saw a TV program at the weekend that was about Venice – the gondola rides are ridiculously expensive … so I think I would have made the same decision as you (and then regretted it too!!)

You are correct! Venice doesn’t need more than a couple of days because you can get around it quite quickly. But I must say my first visit was for a week and we visited a lot of Venice, and did island hopping in Burano and took a day trip across the Adriatic Sea. The gondola ride at sunset was more expensive than the day but we did it anyways. I like that you tried a dish at every restaurant you sat down – I have not tasted better pasta & seafood than the Italians. Simple and exquisite.

My hubby took me to Venice two years ago this week! Thank you for bringing back some great memories for me. This is especially true considering we are also supposed to be on our way to the airport as I type this for another trip flying in and out of Venice, but we all know how that has worked out…
