Travelbloopers
You do the research, you find the perfect historical places that you want to see and the places you want to check off that bucketlist of yours. You have everything figured out, an entire itinerary of goodies for your travels. You might even have figured out the best time of day to go there, just to get that one great instagram friendly image.
You hop on the flight, get yourself all dolled up to be in that iconic picture with that historic landmark, maybe even check out some good poses. But then again, no…
I sure have a few things on my buckelist that I really want to see, but maybe I should stick to things like the pyramids in Egypt or the great wall of China. The Eifeltower in Paris seems to be standing tall aswell.
When I say travelbloopers, I dont mean like the church in Barcelona beeing worked on as you’re there. Trust me, Ive been to Barcelona a bunch of times, its always beeing worked on, so that doesnt count. But is it just me that has caught the bug, or are these travelbloopers going on everywhere?
Have you seen the big Astronomical Clock Prague in the Czech Republic?
When you go to Prague in the Czech Republic, you want to see the big Astronomical Clock, right? So what would you do, when you finally get there, there are renovations going on and theres a huge ugly rag over the entire clockwork.
Yes, we’ve been there for a weekend and we have not seen the Astronomical Clock in Prague, not even a glimpt. And I actually think we managed to walk past that big old rug every day, watching it as is taunted us.
The anchient Book of Kells thats located in Dublin Ireland, have you seen that?
The one things that I really wanted to see when we spent the New Years weekend in Dublin Ireland was the famous Book of Kells thats located in the library of Trinity college. I actually think is was the only thing that was on my personal itinerary. The folklore geek in me really rejoiced at the thought of it.
As we walk up to where the line starts my friend tells me that she has just found out that they have moved the book. MOVED! And not even back to the Kells. Just moved it for some time, and they will bring it back later, but not while Im in Dublin. But in the meantime theres a big screening of the book that you can see.
No, I’m not kidding. I have not seen the book of Kells in Dublin. They moved it.
And since the clock and the book was unavalible during our trips, I want to give a big thanks to our fellow travelbloggers that were kind enough to lend us their images, that completed this post. Thank you!
Have you been through any travelbloopers like this?

I know how frustrating it is when you plan on seeing something and aren’t able to. I try and find other activities to do and hope to come back another time.

That would be so disappointing to go to Prague and not see the clock. I was able to see the clock while there last year, and while its interesting, its not my favorite site in the city. Maybe you’ll see it during your next trip!

It happened to me a few times; last time this summer when I wanted to see an old church/citadel in Romania, just to get there and having it closed because they were renovating it. The clock in Prague… it’s so popular, that if you get there when it strikes the hour you might not see it anyway if you’re short, because of the crowds around it 😉. Yes, that happened to me (of course I could return a bit later and actually see it, but still). But not seeing the Book of Kells if I made that trip would get to me, too. You’ll just have to return at another time – and call ahead to make sure they have it.

Well Wendy, the thing is that I dont think I will be going back to Prague… I was not really that impressed 😊

I loved Prague even though the Astronomical Clock was being renovated! Sometimes there are disappointments when travelling, I guess that is just part of the journey!

It sure is ALison 😊

You made me laugh! It is disappointing when there’s scaffolding or netting over a famous sight. We missed the Trevi Fountain in Rome for that reason. So I figure someday I should go back and see it properly!!
Anngelic
Haha glad you enjoyed our story 😃
Oh yes, you really should go back to Rome Sharon, the Trevi fountain is amazing, oh well, Rome is amazing. Thats a city I really cant wait to visit again.

Seeing the Book of Kells was definitely a highlight for me. I’ve returned to Ireland on 2 more occasions and would happily return again and again in a heartbeat

Ohhh that is so frustrating and disappointing not to see the Clock in Prague! and the Book of Kells! It would get to me as well. I guess a return visit at some future point will have to do!

It is disappointing when you can’t see something you really wanted too! Does mean you get to go back!

The astronomical clock is gorgeous. I’d love to see it. I had the misfortune of visiting the U.S. Capital Building in Washington DC when it was undergoing renovations and was covered with scaffolding inside and out. Fortunately I don’t live too far away, so hopefully I’ll have a chance to go again now that the reno is over.

Having walked the Camino to Santiago. Wanted to take the obligatory selfie in front of the cathedral but it all covered in scaffolding. I guess I’ll have to do it all again!
Jan
Hahaha! Yes, many times when you reach the very church you want to see or the Notre Dame, it is covered with this green netting and scaffolding all over it! I agree with you that we cannot even get a decent picture trying to avoid that green! Well, we have to live with it, I suppose. 😊

How frustrating when you arrive somewhere and find out that one of it’s main attractions has been closed or is being renovated. It might just mean you need to go back for another trip to see them again!

I loved reading your post, as sometimes I too had same incidents. Once when I visited Austria, that famous ski of Interlaken was closed due to some maintenance work and we drove so long for it. Not only this sometimes due to some local restrictions that place is closed and it really becomes emotionally painful to return back without seeing anything.

I went to Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. Booked tickets months in advance and booked a tour of the towers. but on the day we went it was windy, so we weren’t allowed to tour the tower … was really disappointed.
