First impression of Bologna
We landed in Bologna, Italy, at the end of July 2022. We only made hotel reservations for the two following nights, but we ended up booking yet another night just cuz two nights were simply not enough in the city. It sure can be enough time, but it wasn’t for us, we wanted more time to explore before we traveled to yet another Italian city.
The city was superhot, we managed to hit the sizzling summer heat, so we had a temperature of 29 degrees at nine o clock in the morning. It was crazy hot and super sweaty! But somehow it was still manageable, you find that small alleyway with a breeze and sit down with a drink, and you’re just fine. Cuz you are in Bologna, and it’s amazing!
The city of Bologna has many nicknames and after our visit – I can clearly see why. She is called La Dotta, “the learned one” which refers to its university that was founded in 1088. La Rossa, “ the red one” due to all the red rooftops, and La Grassa, “the fat one”. That last one does not need an explanation, does it?
The food was simply great, and it really did not matter if we choose to eat at a trattoria, ristorante, osteria, or a simple enoteca – all the food we ordered was good. The pasta, the pizza, the breakfasts… all of it, it was simply great. So was the espresso, the wine, and of course the Aperol Spritz! 😀
So my first impression of Bologna is obviously that I loved the city, and I would love to do a re-visit and explore some more. Maybe during a different season just to see how the city changes with different weather and temperature.
Have you ever visited Bologna?
